Mapping the mitochondrial interactome across the tree of life
MitoMatch is an effort to characterize the interactome of the mitochondrial proteome across the tree of life. Mitochondria are essential eukaryotic organelles that house core pathways for cellular energy generation and the biosynthesis of macromolecular precursors and cofactors essential for cellular and organismal health — yet the molecular function of many mitochondrial proteins remain unknown. We aim to address this in a systematic way through experimental and computational approaches by constructing a map of how mitochondrial proteins interact, beginning with the human mitochondrial proteome and extending to homologs across the eukaryotic tree of life.
